Wild Carrot Seeds (Daucus Carota), SEM

Wild carrot seeds (Daucus Carota), coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). Common names for this plant are Queen Annes lace, bird’s nest and bishops lace. It is a flowering plant in the family Apiaceae and is classed as a weed although it can actually benefit some crops if nearby, attracting predatory wasps to its small flowers. Tomatoes especially appear to improve crop production when these embelliferae are growing in the area. Magnification x45 at 10cm wide.
